Inflammation is the body’s immune response against irritants and protects the body against harms. However, we also know that too much inflammation can contribute to disease. When inflammation is triggered - either by stress, lifestyle, or diet - chronic inflammation can arise.

Foods that are notorious for triggering inflammation and increasing the risk for diseases like diabetes or heart disease include fried foods, alcohol, vegetable oil, artificial sweeteners, refined carbohydrates, high-fructose corn syrup, and processed meats like hot dogs or beef jerky.

Just like how some foods can cause inflammation, other foods can fight inflammation. Anti-inflammatory foods include fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, whole grains, healthy fats, herbs and spices.
